Press the red Record button when you are. Press the red Record on the top-right of the Nikon D32oo to start recording your video. Press and hold the silver shutter button to focus the lens.I haven't tried it with the 3100 yet though.I've tried a couple of free tethering software packages. Mostly I can't get the software to recognize the cameras. I will check when I get home and let you know - or perhaps someone else knows for sure.I checked on the Nikon Camera Control Pro and unfortunately doesn't offer support for the D3100.NikonCoupleSoFlo edited this topic ages ago.Are you wanting to record the images straight to the computer or are you simply wanting to plug in to use the monitor?Thephotogeek.com/choosing-nikon-dslr-camera-tethered-shoo.Thanks thats so cool Even a Linux software I did not know ! cool !I've tried to use free tethering software before and haven't had a lot of luck. I know it does for the D5000. The app is the result of persistent sophistication of three simple functions- I know it's posible from the hdmi wire but you have to have a hdmi port on your computer !From usb I dont think it's possible if you find out you can then let me know.I think you need software to tether? I can't remember if the LR3.3 Release Candidate has the tethering plugin for the D3100. This service brings your photos even closer to you and increases your enjoyment of the pictures youve taken.Works completely with the D3100 and win 7 32 bit. To try it, launch Image Capture with your camera connected, then go to File > Take Picture.Don't know if this thread is dead or not, but I use DIYPhotoBits.com free software, Camera Control 5.1 dev. But it's also free and the images pop into view immediately after taking it. I know Nikon Camera Control Pro worked on our D5000 as you want it to work but not on the D3100.OS X' built-in Image Capture app has the ability to remote control your camera through the USB port (and even do time lapse triggering), but it doesn't have live view. And use the usb for tethering (sending the pics to the computer).I tried tethering in lightroom 3,3 did not recognize camera. (Just as a note, I do not have Lightroom, yet Studiotether still recognized I had something and was able to take a snapshot.)What could be done is have a live-view with the mini-hdmi and a hdmi interface on the computer.
Nikon D3200 Video Software Update Lightroom ToNow maybe Adobe will get in gear and actually update Lightroom to support the D3100.Also with Aperture is possible make tethering like with Light Room.Man what a pain in the butt this whole things is!!! Why can't Nikon just work with Adobe so Lightroom can support the D3100?So I tried the method suggested in the link that posted and it didn't work. I wonder if they will or if that is another feature they have decided not to support on their "entry level" DSLR.Check this video for tethered capture with Nikon D3100 in Lightroom 3Very cool. As of the latest release Lightroom doesn't have D3100 tethering.I had read on a another site that Nikon hasn't released the driver for total control of the D3100. You can initiate focus and hit the shutter release from the computer but it doesn't give you real time viewing thru the lens prior to taking a picture. End result is you can go thru all the steps and it will all look like it's working until you take a pic and it errors out trying to upload it to Lightroom. So here is the long, complicated work around that I just found. Second is I'm running the latest version of OSX which has been known to not play well with some older software. The plug-in that you used to be able to get from said website was last updated in 2009. First, the website that the YouTube link sends you to is no longer active. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE FOLDER BE EMPTY WHEN SETTING THIS UP. When setting it up you tell it which folder to monitor. Create another folder on your hard drive for this backup. In Lightroom you can select an Auto Import option. When you set up the tethered capture in Aperture you can have the images automatically backed up to another folder. This proves that it is possible to tether the D3100. Microsoft toolkit 247 activation office 2013 windows 8The HDMI is for reviewing pics and video. For most people it won't be worth the trouble but if you are taking portraits with multiple flashes its really helpful to be able to get the info from a larger image to review. How can I see live view in my laptop with hdmi and mini-hdmi-I´ve it and, nothing happend when I conect itAs far as I know you can't. When you take a picture it will take about 10 or 15 seconds but the image will show up in the Lightroom folder and you can see the image, exif data and histogram. It's a pain but the only way I have found so far to get it to work. The newest 'thing' (2017) is to tether your smartphone/tablet to the camera and use interface controls to control the image but this CANNOT be accomplished with this model camera, due to the firmware limitations on the camera.Once again, you CAN use live view on an HDMI monitor, but you CANNOT use live-view on your phone/tablet with this model camera. I couldn't answer this as I don't have the right HDMI cable for it.Digicam Control works great on my D3200, even support liveview.Nikon D3100 CAN do live-view when output is thrown onto an HDMI monitor. Now how it works, is it any good, ect.
